Our Little Room

I don't have any photos of the things I have found lately, but I did have my husband take some pictures of the space we rent in a local antique store, the last time he went down to rearrange and add some items.  The space is only about 6' x 9', so sometimes we really have to cram stuff in there.  We share the space, but at first glance, you would think it is a man's space.  I do think it contains more his than hers.  I have too many venues, and it gets difficult to keep them all going, since I do have a real job, also.  I do like a lot of the same stuff that he likes, though.  He just always beats me to it.  There is quite a variety in there, and he is pretty much in charge of it, but for a man, I think he does pretty well as far as arranging it.  And, to tell you the truth, I have never been that great at it, and I don't like doing it.  The part I like best is finding itl.

As you can see, he likes license plates, hubcaps, gas & oil and old tins.  I like what ever strikes my fancy and that could be anything. I never know from day to day.  I never know exactly what I'm looking for when I go out to sales and auctions. Until next time, have a great week!

Auction Today!

Well, we will be headed to an auction in a couple of hours.  It is about 15 miles up the road in Hotchkiss, CO.  An antique store that has been in business for many years is going out of business, and this auction is to sell everything that is left after having a half price sale that lasted for a few months.  Makes me wonder what will be left, but we will find out.  I'll let you know how it turns out.  If it turns out to be a dud, it's always a good place to socialize with all your auction buddies.  Sometimes auctions are the only place I see some of my friends, so I always look forward to them for that reason, also.

Yesterday we hit some out of town thrift stores and found an outside flea market in Montrose.  It was chilly in the morning, but warmed up and was real nice in the afternoon.  Found a few things there, but nothing real spectacular.  We also went to a Salvation Army store, which I call The Salvation Army Antique Store, because most of their prices are ridiculously high.  A plain and simple picnic basket for $59.95?  You've got to be kidding me!  Any way, we like to go in there for a good laugh!  Makes me wonder how they can sell anything. And it it makes me wonder how people who really need to shop there can afford to buy anything.  Honestly, it pisses me off.  Anyway, we will be off soon and I will let you know how it turns out!  See you soon!

Recent Yard Sale/Auction Finds

This is just a few of the things I have acquired at yard sales or auctions during the last couple of weeks, including an old suit case (love that luggage), an old black storage box, a stoneware spongeware spittoon, an old galvanized oil can, tinker toys, jewelry and a fishing chair.  It will be hard to part with the fishing chair, in fact I might not part with it at all.  Even though I haven't been fishing one time this year, it doesn't mean I  won't go next year.

The spittoon came from an auction.  I don't think they sell real well, but will be listed on Etsy any way.  And if it doesn't sell, I like it and will just keep it for a while.

I thought this jewelry was a great find.  The box with all of the jewelry came from a yard sale.  A great deal!  Only a couple of pieces are marked, but it's all in good condition and pretty.  It doesn't always matter if it's marked, or not.

I'm not sure what this box was made to carry or hold, but it's pretty cool how it opens.  Top comes up, front goes down.  And I love the look.

I forgot about the tinker toys.  They came from an estate sale.  Not sure why I picked them up, probably because I like the way the can looks.

This is all for now, but there is plenty more to come if I ever find the time.  Sometimes I feel a little overwhelmed.

WEEKEND ACTIVITIES

After 2 or 3 days of rain, it looks like the weekend is going to be nice with sunshine and temps in the 70's.  Soooo, I will be speed picking some yard sales tomorrow morning before I go to work at 9:30.  Hate to do that.  Who knows what I'll miss.  Saturday will be better.  There is an auction in a small town about 10 miles down the road with a couple of Good Ole Boy auctioneers.  Those Good Ole Boys are pretty agreeable and easy to get along with, so we'll see what happens.  Haven't been to an auction for a couple of weeks and I'm looking forward to it.  I'm putting out those positive vibes. Hopefully, I'll come away with some good stuff to share.  Have a great weekend and I'll be back soon!

RECENT AUCTION ITEMS

Well, I have been to a couple of auctions within the last few weeks, so thought I would share some of the great stuff I came home with.  The first auction, as I said before lasted all day long and I was pretty tired when we got home.  All I wanted to do was drink a couple of Shock Tops and go to bed, which is pretty much what I did.  I have since taken some photos and listed a few items either on Ebay or Etsy.  Here are some that have or have not been listed.

These Samsonite cases are in awesome condition inside and out, and I got a great deal.  Not sure how to list....separately or as a set.  There is also an overnight case, not shown here.

This is an interesting file cabinet.  I have never seen one like this before, but I think it is pretty cool.  I love industrial metal stuff.  The drawers pull out for letter size file folders and, as you can see, you can insert I.D. cards in the front.  This is not listed yet, but coming soon!

This was a great find at a yard sale a couple weeks ago.  A Kit Cat Clock with no tail.  He is listed on Ebay right now and I don't think the missing tail is going to matter a whole lot.  Cute little guy!

Well, that's about all for now.....more coming soon!  Don't forget to check out my Etsy store here http://www.behindthewall.etsy.com

THE MARATHON

This last weekend I went to an auction.....it was a marathon.  Arrived at 8:30 A.M. and didn't get home until about 7:30 P.M.  What a day!  Didn't get everything I wanted, but I was running out of money especially after winning a good lot of jadeite glassware.  I paid more than I wanted to, but I was not going to quit.  I waited all day for it and wasn't going home without it.  Auctions can really get me in trouble.  As soon as they're over, I start worrying about getting my money back plus more (damned buyer's remorse) gets to me every time.  It all seems to work out in the end.  I did get a real nice 4 piece set of marbled beige Samsonite luggage.  All of it is in great condition and it was a real good deal.  Looks like it was hardly used.  I will post some pictures in a day or two.  Too many other things to do....estate sales, yard sales....you know what I mean.

This Weekends Finds

Here are some of my finds for the weekend.  This was probably the best weekend in a long time.  There haven't been very many sales or auctions around these parts for a couple of weeks.  So, I feel fortunate that I found what I did.  Here are some of them....

Rare New Mexico Chauffeur's Badge

So, I was digging in a box I got at an auction a while back before taking it to Salvation Army, and found an old New Mexico Chauffeur's badge from 1946.  I almost sent it without double checking what was in it.  I think it just got put aside after the auction, because it didn't appear to have anything in it that was worth keeping.  I'm sure glad I took the time to look one more time.  It is in good condition and has a very low number which I believe makes it rare.  If you want to have a look, it is here on ebay. Some of My Recent Finds

My excursions have not been very fruitful lately, but I have managed to find a few things to share with you. I am looking forward to a couple of estate sales coming up this weekend and the weekend after, but most of all I am looking forward to warmer weather and auctions.  Auctions are what I love the most.  I either come away very happy or very pissed off, but there is always that chance you will find something buried in that box you really didn't want.  Love it, love it, love it!
